The tournament is open to anyone who would like to participate. Registration starts at 11 a.m. and lunch will be provided by Chick-fil-A.

It's Memorial Day, the unofficial start of summer and a chance for many to enjoy their first outdoor event of the season.
- Pedaling with purpose: Annual charity event draws bike riders from across the Metroplex
Area bicyclists have the chance to race around the city of Mesquite, Sunnyvale and other parts of Dallas County on Saturday, June 1, when the Mesquite Rotary Bike Ride comes to town. The ride is being sponsored this year by Agape Home Healthcare.

Children have the opportunity to do a little digging into books and earn some great prizes during the summer at the Rowlett Public Library. The library is hosting its annual summer reading club with the theme this year being "Dig into Reading."
- Zoning switch: Council approves zoning change for housing development
The Rowlett City Council approved a zoning change request to allow a housing development to continue with its plans to build a single family residential neighborhood in the Northshore area of the city. The new zoning changes the property from single family 40 to the new neighborhood form based zoning.

- Excellent treatment: Lake Pointe recognized for its wound care center
For the second year in a row, the Lake Pointe Wound Care Center has received the coveted Robert A. Warriner III, M.D. Center of Excellence Award. The award recognizes centers that have achieved patient satisfaction rates of more than 90 percent and a healing rate of greater than or equal to 91 percent in at least 30 median days, among other quality standards.
- Lowering costs: Council weighs creating acute-care clinic for employees
The city of Rowlett has been looking for the last several years at ways to reduce its health care liability without diminishing the quality of care. The city has saved almost $1.7 million since it became a partial self-insurance entity in 2011. The city made the transition to partial self-insurance to try and gain control over some of the increasing costs of health care.

The city of Rowlett has been named a Playful City USA by KaBOOM!. The city first received the designation in 2010 and has managed to maintain it since then. Rowlett joins 217 municipalities across the nation to be named a Playful City USA.
